I’ve fallen into the world of a Miyazaki film. We camp in the outskirts of Irontown,
stationed in a forest that has a wild boar problem. There have been no sightings of Lady Eboshi
or the wolf girl, but the area is vast and if anyone wanted to hide here, it
would be all too easy. In the off chance
there isn’t a chainsaw or blower going you can even hear the occasional
Kodama. Then again, that could be the
25-30 mph winds shifting pebbles amongst the rocks.
We finished up the fire line that we began on Tuesday and then
started up a new one around a nearby campground. I can’t tell whether or not our pace is well
above normal, or if this is the speed groups always go at when messing with
fire line. I mean, on longer projects we
are encouraged to take breaks whenever whereas with these shorter ones it feels
like the team leader is going to disown you for even thinking about a
reprieve. We also work longer days on
these shorter guys. We were up before
the sun and out well after the glowing mass decided to call it night. Don’t get me wrong, this is part of the
package I signed up for when I joined the Emergency Response Team back in
September, I just feel I have no control over my pace and that could be
dangerous.
“Danielle, would you like me to turn you on?” Sometimes when you are exhausted you can say
the darnedest things. This was me trying
to ask Danielle if she needed me to activate her blower. She said no.
It was a little awkward.
Despite having a
horribly unbalanced ratio of critiques to compliments, today was a good
day. I’m still stoked about the Princess
Mononoke coincidences. Think I will
wander into the land of dreams and look to embark on an epic quest. I got to be quick about it though as I only
have 6 more hours before I need to rise.
Later all!
My cinematic stills?
